Elon Musk’s X Reveals Foreign-Based U.S. Political Accounts
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has unveiled a new feature disclosing the geographic origins of user accounts. The update exposes a significant number of accounts discussing U.S. politics while operating from overseas locations—including Eastern Europe, Thailand, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.
The discovery raises fresh concerns about foreign influence in American political discourse. One account, "MAGA NATION," with nearly 400,000 followers, was traced to Eastern Europe. Other high-profile MAGA-aligned accounts originate from Russia, India, and Nigeria.
X determines account locations through IP addresses, app store regions, and access history. The platform continues combating bot networks that spread election misinformation and COVID-19 disinformation.
